My point was not about "hating" or the what is right/wrong... it was merely an observation. Supply and demand has always played a role in numismatics. My point was that more has been discussed about the coin's availability, issue price, market value, investment potential and profit, than has been discussed about the coin itself... Mint products are designed, and catered to, coin collectors, but the hobby suffers with such limited mintages on popular items...

Sometimes you miss out. I missed out on the $5 1912/13/14 RCM coins. Good news is there are ALWAYS other coins to buy. If you really have your heart set on this coin, there are plenty available on the secondary market. If you just wanted to flip it, again, don't worry. There are always other potential upcoming deals.

@ Sergio Sriblo. I feel your pain for not getting a butterfly at issue. I joined this forum just after the gold coins from the bank's hoard was released. I missed out on all the key dates. However, with all the members input, I was able to get a full set of $5's, about 2 weeks after release. As many have stated here, you have to keep yourself informed.

Changing the Mint release policy based on only one coin (butterfly) is insane. That coin is the exception rather than the rule. How many other coins sell out during the MC release in 90 minutes? Zero.
People who complain they did not get one are expressing sour grapes.

It's a shame that Canada Post allowed many of the coins to be sold in advance. I'm curious to see if any stores get any and whether or not Canada Post will change its policy on taking phone orders in advance.

Your complaint will fall on deaf ears at the RCM. They actually want people to feel left out and frustrated. It's part of the marketing. They knew for sure this would be a popular coin and sell out very quickly. So, why didn't they make more of them? They could have made more money if they did. They didn't because they want people to react the way you did.

@sodude They did that with the 2012 dragon coins. The doubled the mintage and the coin took for ever to sell out and sold for less then retail on ebay for some time. I think if they made 20,000 coins this release would have been a flop. I would not have bought three and I know a lot of other people would not have bought as many. Increasing mintage could have killed of the series. Now with an instant sell out we a guaranteed another coin.

I am not a collector or a fan of this glass bug series but if I was I would have been very piisssed to get my advanced notice email and find out that the coin was sold out like 12hours prior. I think you should receive an advanced notice email to let you know exactly when the coin will be available to order. I would cancel this series because I refuse to pay anything over mint issue pricing.

I personally think notes are rejected or ignored or not taken seriously when caps locks are used. When I write complaint letters, they are generally more accepted when written, clear, concise, and not angry.

If you are a serious collector of coins and you know the history of the series and did not do everything possible to get this coin then I would question how serious a coin collector you are. The serious collectors are paying $300 a coin on ebay right now and not crying about missing the release and how they lost the ability to flip a coin also. I think most of the people complaining now are band wagon jumpers. They complain the same way about this coin selling out as they would about not being able to get play off tickets when their team does well. If you only rely on the mints notifications to buy coin then same on you also. Ignorance is not an excuse.

I think the Mint shouldn't have allocated any of the butterflies to Canada Post. When the Mint website was open to order, I was at work and had no access to the internet. Do I have to ask someone to order for me or call in sick in order to secure one? I guess I'm not a true serious collector then? When the next coin comes out, I'll know exactly what to do.

@DoobyRak - I took a day of school just to get this coin. I really wanted one so I got one.
@Mrpiedfort - I agree. Next coin none should be given to Canada Post. That is one way to solve the issue without putting up the mintage and less to dealers too. It would being another couple thousand maybe back into the MC release. Probably still would not make it to public release.

I still don't see what all the hype is about , its just a glass bug glued onto a coin...but it appears that alot of people really like them so there ya go, you never know what will be a hit these days . I am thinking they will hold their value and then some over time because of all the hype, if if wasn't for ebay I don't believe they would have been such a big hit.

@spp-ottawa: Quote: My point was that more has been discussed about the coin's availability, issue price, market value, investment potential and profit, than has been discussed about the coin itself... Agree completely. I've only been on this forum a few years but have already seen a shift away from talking about the coin design/quality itself. Seems less and less care so long as you can sell it on ebay. One crowd is not "better" than the other, but it just sucks to now always see the emphasis put on points better suited for red flag deals.
