Poll Question
May Easter 2013 fine you all well!

My name is Craig, a 54 year old U.S. southern art and coin collector. I hope to be welcome and I am obliged to welcome the Coin Community Family to my family.

I wondered if anyone can identify this coin for me? It was given to me by my wife.

You need to get clearer photos of the coin. Based on what I can see, it might be a replica. It doesn't look right to me.

Hello and welcome.

Sorry we cannot be the bearers of good news, but this is indeed a replica, an extremely commonly seen replica of an Athens 'owl' tetradrachm if previous postings of this exact same coin on the forum are any judge. The "deformed eye" and the wings that look like two planks of wood are highly distinctive, for me at least. This thread contains a similar example, with links to two earlier threads.

At first I said to myself, "Oh, that could be one of those Gazan owls." Then I said "No, that's a cast copy." It's a copy.
The two major imitations from ancient times are Tarnetum and Gaza, but this is neither.
