Just picked up a glass bug from ccc. Place is pretty nice with a limit of customers allowed at a time inside. Fell in love with the 5oz maple and other large silver coins, for those coin enthusiasts that live in the region, you must really check it out.

Quote: you must really check it out Their showroom so good If you have concern about some coin - at their place you will want to buy it. Convenient parking, double-doors, and sometimes the coin not on the display, but they might "to check the coin somewhere downstairs" and to find it. Added: 1oz Platinum Platypus by Perth Mint looked great (..but the price tag isn't on my level...)

I got shipping confirmation too. and without notice they charged me tax as I'm in BC. I wonder if it's appropriate for RCM to do this because on the day I submit my order, there was no tax on silver coins in BC.

You did not pay for them when you ordered only when it shipped if it was like gatewest and you paid first then you would not have paid the extra tax

@ SilverBug, give the Mint a call and explain your situation. It's worth a try to push for a tax refund...

Everyone coin I ordered in March from RCM and shipped in April had GST of 7%. I doubt you will get a refund from RCM. Let me know if you get a refund.

@Asoul, perhaps they were made aware of the problem from the first shipments so now packaging is better?

You know the tax thing could be messed up due to 'what it is'. A glass adornment on a silver coin is no long considered a 99.99% silver coin. The idea that coins were tax free - if only 99.99% silver, or 99.9% gold. (ie Sterling coins did not get tax free status despite other countries using sterling as a standard for bullion 92.5%)
I remember years ago, Crown Royal (whisky) came with a velvet bag - because of that, extra taxes were applied. So, they stopped giving out the bag except at Christmas in Gift boxes.
I'm thinking the tax man does have a case on any coin that has been altered to any degree beyond pure metal. Any Crystals, or bugs attached surely make the coin more of an 'object of art' than simply a nice looking coin.
For that matter, any coin that is markedly above the current bullion prices, we should be thankful they haven't decided to tax the crap out of. After all, we all know these coins are not bought simply for the silver value, and apparently are more considered as a 'product' to be bought and sold, like any other store bought goods.
