look at the centre of the obverse side with the circle and the anchor in the middle and then compare it to the one shown in the thread it is definitely not the same.

Just one thing I've found along the way, here; that's not an anchor, but, apparently, a very stylized "M," for the kingdom of Mercia!

Since the seller added the reply from Museum reproductions I think any buyer stands a really good chance of getting their money back through paypal if it turns out to be a copy.....

Far out that annoys me when sellers are told that their coin has questionable authenticity and then they sell it as if it is genuine. I hope he gets caught and charged for this blatant attempt at fraud. That is just outright criminal to do he had knowledge that it was probably fake and yet still went on to sell it as genuine and that he in fact sold it to someone else so thats enough evidence to prosecute him already and if your reading this New-To-Coins shame on you absolutely shameful and we all know well enough that what comes around goes around.

As a 'Valued member' of this forum, perhaps you should think, before slandering me.
I e-mailed each of the main bidders on my coin, made them aware of all of the info pointed out on here, and told the buyers only to proceed if they were happy to take the risk that although I believe it to be real, others don't !
Didn't think of that, did you ?

I have done EVERYTHING I can possibly do to play fair, updated the sale, e-mailed the main bidders, most people would just sell and ignore you lot, especially with some of the ill-thought-out, libellous comments you spout off.
I've sold a coin that I truly have faith in, the buyer will be getting it authenticated !
You obviously couldn't afford it, and sour grapes come to mind !
Night !!

All I know is that this coin has caused me so much trouble on here, and all I wanted to do was sell it to get my investment back.

If this is the case why not take it back to whoever you bought it off and get a refund.
It looks like you have been "Stitched up" with this coin and simply want to pass your mistake onto some other unsuspecting buyer.
You have been given a definitive assessment of this coin by some very expert people and you still insist on selling it.

To me this is unethical behaviour on your behalf

I take great offence to that new-to-coins you think that purely because I couldnt afford the coin is why I am taking this personally? I have a great collection which I thoroughly enjoy assembling LEGALLY which is more than I can say for you. Firstly I do not deal in these sorts of coins as I have said before I collect australian pre decimal silver (as I said before I had no interest in ancient coins read back and you can find my post) and secondly what you have done is still criminal you have defrauded a customer and if he does get it authenticated and it comes back as fake YOU are guilty of FRAUD and even if you give him a refund YOU CAN STILL BE PROSECUTED because the state will prosecute you not the buyer. YOU have KNOWINGLY sold a coin with questionable authenticity and even tho you have said that it may be fake that does not make you not guilty. WHY? because ebay bans fakes from being sold on their website so the buyer has viewed the coin as genuine not only through what you have written but because you have agreed with eBays terms which explicitly say that fakes are not to be sold through ebay.

So as far as the law is concerned all they have to prove is that you knew it could have been fake and that you indeed sold it to some one. Thats all they have to prove and you can end up in jail for 10 years. You New-to-coins are an utter shame upon this hobby and I hope that that money you FRAUDULENTLY gained you enjoy because it may well cost you 10 years of your life in a united kingdom jail.

As well no less than 4 people have said that it is either QUESTIONABLE or in fact FAKE. NONE said that is was genuine and these are people who have knowledge of the field and have probably spent years assembling collections and gaining experience which is more than I can say for you! So please either leave the forum or treat the forum members here with respect.

Though I am becoming increasing disappointed with the tone this thread has taken, I would still like to know what "spits the dummy" means, please.

Mr New-to-coins you do realise that if genuine as you have assured us it is this piece was worth in excess of £3000+ ?

Perhaps it will be back in a month or so, when the new buyer just wants to make his money back. It's rather like one of those pyramid scheme.

"spits the dummy" means to have a sulk because you are not getting everything your own way.

philadelphian, "Spits the dummy" is to go into a huff and strunt because you cant have your own way, like kids do when they are chastized for wrong doing, they "SPIT the Soother" out. ( I think thats what you guys call a dummy)
