My best guess on how this happened is that at one time in it's life it was stolen and used for change to buy something. I have found in the past a few proof quarters in the cash register when I was working at a gas station, not to mention a bunch of other good finds but that was in the 1980's Best ever was a gentleman paying for his gas with $10 Gold Certificates. He had a handfull of them. He spent 4 of them I got 2 and the owner of the station go 2. Which I have all 4 now. He wouldn't sell them, they were his fsthers who had passed away amd wanted to put them back in circulation. Report this Post to the Staff

It could be circulated for 10 years, and will still be a matte proof coin. Grading at Proof 20. As mentioned, that coin was taken out of the set by someone who had not a clue what it was and spent. Thankfully it was rescued before it got too bad. But a pitiful sight none the less. Report this Post to the Staff
