Based on the die crack in the R of VICTORIA, it looks like a Haxby PC59-46a1 which is the 46a obverse paired with the G7 reverse. It is a little hard to be sure from the photos but it looks like a G7 reverse in an early state. Obverse 46a was paired with 4 known reverses, in the 1859 cents the obverse dies outlived the reverse dies on average about 3 to 1. Nice coin. ed

@nybird - interesting. Didn't notice the die crack in the R at first. What information should I be looking closely at in order to determine if it is a G7 reverse?

I would start here. http://www.vickycents.com/rev-g7.html, Then I would carefully look at the other possible reverses J5, J5a and K3. In this case you can rule out K3 since all the K reverses have a recut stem on leaf 8, which yours does not have. I think you can also rule out J5a as it has a real obvious repunched 9 in the date. That leaves G7 and J5. Look carefully at leaf 9 and the recuts in the stem, also look for any signs of die cracks around the edge, any die cracks will make ID positive. On the 1859s all the stems on leaf 9 were recut except one, since this was done by hand each one is rather unique. To me the vine loop on pictured on the J5 page does not match your coin hence my G7 guess. ed |

1859 Large Canada cents have multiple varieties, I would agree with the others ...VF30 nice one.  |

OK I want to revise my guess. Now I would call it Haxby PC59-46a3. That is Obverse 46a paired with Reverse J5a. The reasons are as follows. Obverse 46a due to the die crack on the R of VICTORIA Reverse J5a due to the heavily repunched 9 of the date, I couldn't see the repunched 9 in the earlier photos. Nice coin. The details in the braid are fairly worn, I would say F18 on the obverse alone!
