Banks in Canada will no longer sell you boxes of pennies( that is unless you personally know a banker and secretly buy up the pennies).

I found that advertising in local papers and ads for buying pennies 5 cents over roll value works pretty good. got another shipment I gotta go pick up on Monday! :) :)

Picked up 5 boxes yesterday, the teller is more than happy to pass them on, the less she has to deal with... A good return for the price of the odd double-double..

I have approx 400 boxes of pennies. In the last 9 months I had gone through about 100 boxes just sorting the coins by year. Was hoping to have more time to coin hunt and learn about the coins to look for. I'm a total noob at what to look for other than the 2006 no logo magnetic penny.

I found just two 2006 no logo magnetic pennies. Those are so hard to find.

I was going to just save all the copper pennies and then dump the zinc coins. Anyone have any advice on what to do? Just keep the pennies for future selling or searching?

@ Tally, wow, lots of boxes of pennies! Totally insane! I would make a few nice red rolls of each year of the zinc coins. I would keep the nicest ones, varieties, unusual ones, etc. plus all the copper ones. Then send the lower-end zinc coins back before the floor caves in!

Does that include credit unions?

BTW, anyone have any luck buying rolls from grocery stores, dollar stores, etc.?

i have gone into a couple stores and asked if they had a bunch of penny rolls kicking around I could buy off them and a lot of places were happy too because they didnt have to bring them to the bank! sometimes you can ask for nickels also and they will do that. mostly I get my pennies now by posting ad's on KIJIJI saying I will buy any amount of pennies you have! and a lot of people had hoarded up a solid amount of pennies too lazy to do anything with! I'm pretty sure I have close to 200lbs of copper pennies!

Good thinking about advertising on Kijiji Crimewave! I'm going to ask around at local stores and see if they want to unload some of those pesky pennies they don't want to take back to the bank!

Congrats on 200 lbs.! Hope you have concrete floors!

I dumped 8 boxes of pre-'82 pennies into my local TD bank coinstar machine, after I'd gone through them for a second time to make sure I hadn't missed any errors or scarce varieties. Couldn't be bothered to keep all that copper around, especially since you can't take it to a scrapyard! Much happier with the 6 Maple Leafs that I bought with the proceeds! :-)

This is what I tell myself: The American Border is not far from my place and pennies are not being discountinued in America. For real desire of copper pennies, I could jst grab a few boxes of them from the bank.

I've accumulated over 100 boxes now and still looking for more. Most are 1950's to date but have about 8 boxes of 1920 to 1952. Can't get enough pennies. Do I need help?

Another thing that just popped into mind, is how long until we start seeing ridiculous "unsearched Canadian penny rolls" on ebay?
