Looks like a nice coin to me. Hope you made a good score there, Rayman.

There is a 14 day return so I'm sure it will be going back after confirmation.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying you belive it to be fake? Or just plan on returning it either way?
Its a very nice coin and I hope its real. Someday I hope to own one. It would be really exciting to have a new variety discovered by a CCFer on such an old coin. I shall be watching /drooling on this thread. Heres to hoping!

Certainly hoping... but staying realistic.

Well, if we're placing our wagers, I still think the obverse and reverse look too much like B-1 BB-21 for it to be a new variety. Looking forward to any new info, though!

Picked up the coin today. Here are a few quick shots.

Besides the berry something still is not looking right. A little tired from a long day, so I'll give it a rest for now. Sorry for the supersized photos. Thoughts/observations are welcomed.

You take good pics, sir, and going over them, I'm hard pressed to see anything amiss but that absent neck truncation loop and the eerily erased berry. Got a weight?

Weight and Diameter are within range.

There has been enough input on this forum on another that it is clear it's an altered genuine coin.

Genuine altered is general consensus.

Paraphrasing:

"The disruption between the D of UNITED and the first S of STATES lends one to think maybe a pin had been soldered across the back over the eagle's breast through the region of the missing berry to the right edge by the I of AMERICA."

While the exact details may never be known. It is definitely genuine altered. The center obverse shows signs of work as well as the smoothing pointed out above on the reverse.

If anyone wants to see other areas of the coin up close for educational purposes, let me know and I'll try to post them. Thank you for your comments and observations.

A few additional photos because I'm bored and it's raining here.

Sharing a few areas of note if anyone is still interested.

Some work done around the throat area. Note the straight lines.

More around the wing near the "missing" berry.

Rayman, I don't have your knowledge on these at all. So it is thought that there was a pin attached, what happened around the throat area? That area is confusing to me on what has been done there.

The observe would have faced out. The area around the throat was probably some sort of repair. Maybe it was an extra point to secure the coin due to size and weight that caused damage on the obverse? It could be unrelated too.

The reverse may have looked similar to the one below.
