Looking for the name of this minor error. I just want to know what to label it. I am trying to keep at least one of as many of the different errors on the error and variety checklist as I can. I have looked for quite a while on error-ref.com. I probably overlooked it. Thanks all!

Probably Die Flow Lines due to deterioration.

It's not just "regular" flow lines. It may very well be due to late die state, but the part that is level with the field is the space directly above the letters. The small space that joins the rim between each letter is higher, almost level with the edge of the rim. It's almost like die broke between each letter, even with the top of each letter, to the rim. Sort of like a dent between each letter or something.

Jay, you state "The small space that joins the rim between each letter is higher, almost level with the edge of the rim"... but looking at the first photo, those spaces seem to be darker than the rest of the surrounding field. If these spaces were indeed higher, and seeing the light source coming from about the 10 o'clock position, shouldn't they have been lighter?

I'm clarifying for myself but maybe others need it too... We are looking at the space between the letters. Not the space between the letters and the rim. It seems that there is some sort of Die break/deterioration that has created these ramps. If I'm right its pretty cool. I am interested in the ramp between the to peaks of the N. also the ramp between the I and the T that seems to hug the T a bit. Is this the case Jay? Do these two ramps bubble around the lettering?

Note the area affected are in the open/semi open areas? That is just part of die wear. The devices near the rim prevented it from continuing towards the rim. In the areas SW of "Y" of UNITED does not show this because there is no devices blocking the die flow. Different, but probably not a premium coin. I would keep it as an educational item to show new collectors.

Thanks coop, that makes sense.
I got 4 2012-D cents as change from my local gas station. All 4 are like this. The "ramps" are a tiny bit more pronounced on this one, but they show up well on all 4. Two of them have rolling machine marks on the obverse, but the other is pretty nice. If anyone wants one PM me and I will send it to you.
jyelts2cents - To answer your question, yes. In the middle of the N, the raised metal goes down between the diagonal and right leg. It also goes slightly around the left bar of the T.
Thanks all!

Quote: Hey COOP I can't find the y in united The "Y" is missing? Uhm, probably a Greaser job; There must've been some grease under the Y key on the keyboard, so that's why it didn't get transferred to the monitor screen.
