Found this searching penny rolls, appears to have all the markings of a true DD (notches at bottom of 1, 9, and 8. The first 9 and 8 appear to be down and to the left. I am not a excellent photographer but these are the (currently best shots. Can't seem to get the light correct, anyway...opinions, comments, classification appreciated. Thanks, bob

Also, the left side of the curvitures on the underlying "8" cut through the enclosed openings of the top "8" making it a little more difficut to discern. Where the top and bottoms of the two "8's" meet there is a notch. Top notch pointed down, bottom notch pointed up. Any help appreciated, could find no such animal in the CherryPickers Guide.

If you want an opinion on the notches at the bottom of 1,9, and 8, you would have to submit a blown up portion of the date. With the pictures you have submitted I would not be able to tell. Sorry!

The doubling on a Doubled Die has to be raised and the same thickness as the original device. IMO The doubling on yours looks incuse which means it is not a Doubled Die. It looks like Die Deterioration Doubling to me.

Thanksz for the input, the doubling is raised...it is an optical illusion that makes it appear incuse...I have to look at it for a bit be able to focus and see the raising in the pic. Will try to get a larger blow up..so far if I go over 400x it gets too grainy....here is another attempt with a different contrast...

It may be an "or what?" as it is not as raised as the overstrike. Need someone with more expertise in photography!

Sorry, not a DDO
Either Machine Doubling, possibly shift doubling
or an issue with the copper plating.

Die deterioration. Happens when the dies start showing wear on the Zincolns.

Well I appreciate the expert info...you'all seemed to have pegged it. Any value as an odditiy? or should it go back from whence it came?
