This is a very nice coin of the emperor Maximinus II
IMP C CAL VAL MAXIMINVS PF AVG
GENIO AVGVSTI
K in left field
B in right field

I can't quite make out the mint mark though.

Mint mark is ALE and the thing in the field is an X:

Maximinus II
IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMINVS PF AVG
GENI-O-AVGVSTI
ALE (Alexandria)
RIC VI Alexandria 149b
Rated Common
312
Folles

This one is roman imperial...roman republic ended with Caesar.

Thanks to echizento and BenByfield. Your information prompted me to go to the wildwinds.com attribution guide (which I had overlooked due to my limited exposure to ancients) and upon further examination, have determined this to be:
RIC VI 160b. The character in left field is in fact N, rather than X
