Hello:) Can you help me with this Lincoln Cent? In my opinion details are fine, but obverse seems to be corroded. This could lower value of my LC? I paid for it 70$. What do you think about this purchase?

Looks EF40, however, it also appears to have environmental damage. looks like someone attempting to clean it but what was on it had already eaten into the surface. normally I would say this type of damage would reduce it to about 20-25% of its value. A clean EF40 example would be about $140. sorry to say but I think you may have overpaid for it. is there any way you can return it? wait and see what a couple other folks say about it.

This is not XF-40. I would say high Fine or low VF details. It does look like there has been some cleaning attempt or environmental damage. I always use the "what problem-free grade would you rather take instead of this one" approach to determine deduction. Luckily this coin is so rare in lower circulated grades that the price does not drop so significantly. I would rather have a VG, but not a G-4. This coin is probably worth G-6 value IMO. You can probably buy a G-6 for a bit less than what you paid, but I don't think you got ripped off, just slightly over-paid.

I believe the value on this date has not gone anywhere in the last few years and nice VF-ish coins
can be had for about $100. This coin has corrosion in a bad spot and was very likely cleaned (on the obverse) in an
attempt to minimize the damage. I personally would have waited for a problem free coin but basically you got 30% off on the damage.
