I think your very probably correct, it looks like the 'medals' cast in the 16th century by Giovanni Cavino, it could even be an 18-19th century copy of one of those original medals.

The reverse is known as the '3 sisters', I think the bust is of Caligula

If it is a genuine 16th century 'medal' its still worth good money, if its a later cast its worth less and if its just a modern fake its not worth much at all. What its not is ancient.

Whose selling it, a 'chancer' on ebay or a proper auction house? Could help us decide on its true provenience quicker if we knew.

No doubt a 'Copy' but very attractive nonetheless ! If you lack the $2,000 to get a 'good' one for the right price these make very attractive place holders. If it were under $30 I would snap it up !

I would wager that an attractive copy such as this will go for conciderably more by the finish. I have an Augustus a Tiberius a Claudius and a Nero sestertius. Caligula has eluded me for over 35 years.

A nice fake, but it looks like a fake to me anyway.

I would REALLY need the coin in hand, BUT
That looks awfully like a circumferential edge join, which would indicate a cast fake.
It looks WAAAAY too round for me!
Roughness and lumpiness around the allegorical figures suggests 'fake' as well.

Nevertheless, I would definitely like to include this piece in my 'dark' collection, but not for sixteen pounds. Five, maybe?

From the pictures ONLY, I would certainly NOT be interested in it as a genuine coin.

Its up to £25 with an hour to go. Maybe it is one of the 16th century by Giovanni Cavino that bobby mentioned and they will get lucky.

I would have paid a fiver for it also.

If it is a Giovanni Cavino it is well worth 25 pounds and I would take it, but I would not know if it was or wasn't.
