Fresh from the mint, the variation should be very small, perhaps a tenth of a gram ; but a circulated copper could be worn quite a bit. Silver pieces were typically withdrawn after they had lost some amount of weight (in the US, 5%), but coppers when the date became indistinguishable. Report this Post to the Staff
