After reading the wonderful CherryPicker's Guide v2 over the weekend, I have encountered about 10 or so coins that I would like to post. I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to varieties and really don't even know where to begin looking.

After going thru several 1947-S dimes, one of them stood out. This mintmark is at least 2x the size of the other mintmarks. Where can I find out more information on this occurrence?

1947-S-Dime---Large-Mintmark

Thanks in advance for your assistance and comments!

The sans-serif S is listed as rare in Breens encyclopedia #3704 His notes indicate that the MM style may have been intended for a coinage of a different country .

There are actually three different styles of MM listed for this year ,,trumpet tailed, knob tailed and the Sans-serif like the one you have pictured ,, it is also noted that this is the only year with such a MM as this one.

Thanks Metalman!! I truly appreciate the response.

I just searched Amazon for 'Breen's Encyclopedia' and found the lovely price of $178. I think I need to get a second job and mow a few lawns first.
