Thanks for the ASE suggestions, but my father gets silver bullion every week.

Proof ASEs in graded slabs are not really bullion. Their numismatic value will always exceed the regular bullion coins.

But we're only offering suggestions as you asked. It really boils down to what you want/like.

Whatever coin you get will certainly be a better choice than a new video game or in my case, model airplanes.

Yes, I was thinking about a Liberty Seated half dollar of some year.

If you were to buy ASE's, what grade and mint and strike would you get? I see online they have first strike and West point and Early Strike and all other kinds of grades.

My local dealer had a nice XF 1876 half dollar roughly within your budget and you might find something similar near you.

Another idea is to build a birth year set. My local antique dealer has built up a birth year set for himself (born 1951) and each of his kids. His set comprises all the UK circulation coins for the year, mint stamps in issue that year, first day covers (where relevant and possible), photocopies of the front page of a newspaper on the birth date (or the next day after) - his makes an amazing display on his office wall. He's now working on getting one coin from each of the British Commonwealth countries to add to his own birth year set.

If that inspires you, tell us your birth year, and we can make other suggestions.

I decided to get the 1843 Liberty Seated quarter. Thanks for the suggestions.

Since you now have that 09S VDB, why not stick to Lincoln Cents. Not sure how many you have but if no Album, tell your parents to buy you a Lincoln Cent Album. Of course a 14D's would be nice in that new Album. Lots and lots of Lincoln Cents to get if you want a complete set. Don't forget there are lots and lots from 1909 to present. A nice complete set of all the 2009's would be nice.
By the way my Birthday is September 6, so what are you getting me?
