Looks like an extra piece of metal to me, if it's completely above the coin's surface. Interesting, but doesn't add to the value as far as I am concerned.

I'm certainly no expert, but that looks very very straight and thin. More like a utility knife cut when someone didn't realize this coin was on the workbench underneath what they were cutting.....

How can a "cut" cause a raised surface? I think I'll take this to work and put it under the microscope so everyone can see it MUCH closer....there's no cut that I can tell, it's more like a bump.

BadThad...the images are misleading, and easy to interpret as either a "cut" or a raised line. The die breaks/cracks that I've seen (a relative small number) were not so straight, but tend to be jagged, or at least curved. Closer, clearer pictures will help all of us make a better determination. Thanks for posting...it's always fun to unravel a mystery!

It appears that something gouged the surface of the coin at an angle, causing displaced metal to form a raised line parallel to the gouge.

Die cracks look more like a lighting strike, there where a lot of V nickels made with die cracks. Your coin has a straight line however from the pictures I can not tell what you have to give you a honest opinion. Bruce. Edited by BRUCE 1947

You guys were correct. Looked at it under the microscope today and it's a valley with the metal pushed up to either side. Somebody must have been chopping veggies on it! LOL
