Allspice,

The only reason the Mint is doing the Superman coin is one of the co-creators (Shuster) of Superman was born in Canada.

No Batman, or Spiderman or any other Superhero unless the creator was born in Canada. That rules out Stan Lee of Spiderman.

MoneyPenney, I think allspice was being just a tad facetious.

Thanks to Silveroid here are nine other reasons:

Silveroid, do you know what the big display coins were made of? Aluminum? Cardboard? They look cool, I wouldn't mind one of them to stick up on the wall.

Still haven't heard from anything from RCM. I got an email from CC&C at 12:21 and CA at 12:24.

MoneyPenney,

I see... born in Canada.... but why not commemorate the Canadian Superheroes? Let's see... we have Wolverine, Capitaine Kébec, Johnny Canuck, Northern Light, Nelvana, Captain Canada, Northguard, and Captain Canuck. Did I leave any out? Oh yeah, my favorite, Super Shamou!

What do you think? A challenging follow-up series to Superman!?!?

The enameled "The Shield" coin and the manual enameling process...

Does someone know, were all the "Shield" coins produced this way, or only some "control" / showcased part of the mintage - the one that we can see on the pictures ans video?

I hope their all done this way. It would make me feel better about spending that much money for the coin.

Yes, they are done individually by hand.

OK, I confess, they are much nicer than I expected. If I were a Superman aficionado (I'm not), I would buy some of them, although I agree with the prevailing opinion they are overpriced. I particularly like the 1/2 ounce $15.00 Modern Day Superman coin. By the way, all are still available right now...

I'm very impressed after watching the production vid. The enamelling is meticulous and painstaking. I can justify the price more than for the other coins even though I did buy a few from the series. I really like the gold coin too but it's way out of my price range . I can't wait to get these :)

I still think the hologram coin is the star of the line, but I might order it and the shield coin. I could see both being good performers down the line, and I like them. Those are reasons enough for me.

Well now, I guess the 1/2 is the winner of this show. It's already on phone in only. I'm guessing the pricing point is right to give as a gift. The gold is on awaiting stock.

Rep just told me the 1/2 oz. is almost gone. He also said the gold one is sold out, no more left.
He said in their meeting this morning that they're all (maybe other than the stamp set) forecast to be sold out today based on sales and remaining inventory. We'll see....

He said a lot of U.S. buyers were buying the entire set yesterday which is why the gold one is gone, gone, gone.

@lyradnoj

Telling the truth - I do not know, but according the way, like they look like, it probably painted "pressed" thin layered wood, not a cardboard. Also, they easily moved the stands.

Added:
About the 1/2oz coin - absolutely the best item from the design/price point of view. I wish, the lenticular coin was presented like others - I would buy it for my son.
