What Type Of Coin Is This?! - Coin Community Forum

Vaslin Pillar of the Community United States 914 Posts	Posted 06/07/2007 09:08 am Sorry, but I'm stumped!! I received this coin in a type set on ebay. They had this listed as a Half Dime, but the reverse just doesn't match up. Plus, the portrait on the obverse is higher than the Half Dimes I've seen. It does have the same dimension as a Half Dime at 16.5 mm. If I was to guess at the date, it looks like 1788. The identifyable features that I can see: Obverse: 1) There is a blurry 'O' at 2 o'clock 2) There is a clear 'A' at 4 o'clock. 3) There is a blurry '8' at 6 o'clock. Reverse: 1) There is a clear 'R' at 8 o'clock. 2) There is possibly a 'S-A' just below the center. I'd appreciate any help I can get! Thanks all! Report this Post to the Staff

The portrait looks like it could be right and the position of the R and the castle in the coat of arms on the reverse looks right. In this condition, it would only be worth its silver content which would be a little less than .0487 oz. with the amount of wear. Report this Post to the Staff
