I have the Morgan and I think someone altered the mintmark. Could it be a mint error? Would appreciate input. I am new and this is my first post.

I'd say it is real and a die chip has filled the center of the O.
Rest in Peace

I checked the known VAMS and don't see any mention of this, so if it is a mint error, it could be a newly discovered VAM. Perhaps though if it is a die chip or Cud plug, it may be so random that it wouldn't reproduce another one, therefore it would likely not be considered a VAM but rather just a random occurrence. Not sure if it's value is greater due to this condition, but it's very interesting nonetheless so congrats on discovering it!

I found another similar Morgan on this site, same year and mintmark.

I don't know anything about it...but I think it's neat that another coin has the same error, hmm...I wonder how much it's worth if a genuine error.

It's a filled mint mark, not particularly uncommon with New Orleans Morgans (or San Francisco issues, for that matter).
