Its hard to tell from the scan with all the rust on the coin. If I was guessing than you are correct a SF with a near leaf.

It is beyond cleaning... those coins consist of chrome-plated steel. Once the rust has formed in the steel, it is pretty much is what you see - not much chance of helping it.

Sorry Lyn. I don't know as much as I would like to know about nickels... but keeping one like this will only add to the clutter as you add more coins to a collection.
