I'm having all kinds of trouble getting a picture through us mint case plastic. My camera doesn't have a function to turn off autofocus.

Anything I can do to get the focus to work?

1. What camera are you using?

2. You need more light.

3. If those are proofs you are going to have a lot of extra problems.
Proofs, PL's, DMPL's and even some MS coins require a different camera/lighting setup.

Make learning easy on yourself and start with business strikes and circulated coins.
Work your way up to the tough stuff.
