This is one of my favorite coins. What do you think it would grade as?

The contrasting differential toning may be hiding a few tiny nicks and scratches. It would be easier to grade this one 'in hand'. Assuming that they may be a few more tiny ones which I cannot see,
MS62.

Usually with these the reverse grades higher than the obverse because there many more high points to protect the rest of the design from nicks and scratches. Same thing happens with Australian Elizabethan florins.

Low MS. The reverse almost looks proof-like. I washed that kind of toning off my recently purchased sixpence because I thought it would look better. My mistake.

In the early 1970s my wife (at the time)worked at CIBC and brought home a mint sealed bag of 1963 halves she bought for face value. I can't remember how many were in the bag but I am thinking 500?. Anyway, I kept it for several years but the prevailing opinion at the time was that 63 was a large mintage and that date would never be worth must more than 50 cents each. I cashed the bag back in at the bank. Not one of my best decisions.

No, I would say not.... even back in 1970 they should have been worth more than .50 cents, shame... you could realize $10.00 each or so today..

Yeah... not the best decision made. Let's see... $250.00 in half that, nowadays, could be sold for around $5000.00.
