Absolutely stunning coin and even more spectacular photography. Mr. Campbell is obviously a master artist at this ... amazing images ... certainly some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. Quote: That scratch down at 5:00 reverse is going to hurt thing I'm not so sure Dave it will be a big deal ... there is also a minor reverse rim bruise at 4:00 ... no one considers this to be a 'perfect' coin ... truly believe it would come back as PCGS MS67 or better. Stunning. David

That is a beautiful coin. I will be anxious to see what it grades.

I have looked at this coin raw in hand more time than I can count and have never noticed that before. I wish I had it with me to check it out and see what is going on?

My best bet is that the mark could be in the planchet also. I would need to see in hand again to determine. Here is a coin with a similar mark which is in the planchet. Check the eagles wing. You can see it well in my pics is why I posted them. The pro pics are after slabbing.

I spoke to Bob about what we are seeing. Turns out it was a hair. It was in the pics he took the first round and then gone during the second round which I have viewed but not yet downloaded.
I would have been very surprised if a scratch had gotten past me as I have intensively viewed this coin numerous times.

Man, that wheatie's obv looks like it is made of leather... Really nice leather.
With no scratch, that might grade 71+

I have a decent 1917 Mint Set - and I was very pleased with the Cent until I saw your images. WOW !!
Now that the REV hair situation has been cleared up, I would not be one bit surprised it PCGS gave it a 68 BN.
Good Luck !

OK, I'm back to swooning then. The only point of contention on the reverse is the mark below the M in AMERICA. I see a couple of as-struck features - particularly above the A in STATES - but frankly they're only factors in a discussion of whether to bestow a 69 upon a coin, not any lesser grade. This is simply as nice a Business Strike wheatie as you could ever ask for. It only remains to see if PCGS has the stones to offer the grade it deserves. I've been here at CCF for 8 years and over 13,000 posts, and not until this point have I ever considered suggesting MS68 for a raw, member-posted coin. I'm considering it now. MS67 for this one is the equivalent of DeAndre Jordan over Brandon Knight: a slam dunk so brutal as to be considered murderous.

I never thought any single coin could look as good as this Cent. I mean, geez... just geez.

I say it's not a MS-68, but it's MS-67 at least. The reason is because MS-68 has just a touch better hairline details.

Well the verdict is in.
PCGS did not want one of the finest toned and well preserved coins of this date in their holder.
Got the copper dreaded code .91
Oh well their loss. Rant over
