I'll try to participate (like last year). Address should be on the way shortly.
That said, I have to say in advance that [since I'm in Russia] my postal arrangements might not be enough to be anywhere near sure that a letter I send after December 8 arrives to my recipient before January 11 (and I suspect whoever gets me as their recipient might not have their letter received so quickly either; last year I didn't get anything until Jan 10).

This is my 1st year with this exchange and I'm looking forward to it. Do most folks send out coin(s) or do some people get real fancy in their secret Santa gift? I don't want to disappoint my recipient. What were some of the neat gifts received in prior years?

I have received coins and sent both. In 2011, I received a 1968 Australian 20 cent piece to go in my BYS. In 2012, I received a 1917-d Standing Liberty quarter, type 1 (my first type 1) |

Mostly coins and banknotes
sometimes some of the receivers have received some extra goodies as well.
My concern is that this is an exchange and we do not want someone to spend a large amount of money on a gift and then receive a give of small value.
It is one of the reasons - I am not on the list
although occasionally some secret Santa finds my address and I have even received a coin or two.
Preparing list to go out I expect everyone should have them the evening of the fourth US E.S.T.
