Is it protocol to ask your recipient what they collect/would like to receive or should it be a surprise ?

I just added my name as well. Last year, in addition to two common mint sets, I received two pair of nice, warm socks. Santa had asked what to give a collector and I replied, "Socks are ALWAYS appropriate." Little did I know that Santa had drawn my own name! I really enjoyed those socks last winter. So, draw my name and send socks. Plus a single lucky coin.

Yeah, or at least would be great to know if the receiver collect coins or paper money.

I like to be surprised. It's always fun to learn about new things too. You never know when you might be sparked to collect something different.

Quote: Santa had asked what to give a collector and I replied Actually Santa asked "what to give a collector who has everything" and you aptly fell into Santa's trap

I think now that it's been a year since the last, I'm clear to say it. Fuzzy, I was your Secret Santa last year. It's tickled me pink to know that you really liked the quarter.
As for last year, Rggoodie took care of me after my assigned Santa disappeared (apparently, anyway).
Updating my what I collect list (main feature of the update - only three Franklins to go before I've got a complete set: 1948, 1954-S, 1955).

And you know, I completely neglected to actually check your want list when I picked it up. I just saw it and thought "this looks pretty good, let's go with it."

You may not like this What are you going to do about it? Santa I am going to post a number of posts from one of our forum members. I will be breaking a rule in that I will be posting the members address Quote: Hello rggoodie, I finally was able to connect online through mobile. This is with regards to secret santa 2013 from which I posted last november that I wouldn't be able to join because of what typhoon jaiyan had brought to my town. The last time I checked our post office, it is still not operating. And I saw my name is still on the list. I don't want to disappoint my recipient as he won't be able to receive anything from me. :(
Me and my family are still adjusting to the damage of what the typhoon had caused. TWO of our homes are roofless and we're still finding ways to get the funds that we need to restore the damages and also help other people.
I am just saying this because I wouldn't be able to have a budget for secret santa.
Hope you understand.
Thank you and God bless.
carraz/crzy3by next response to my questions Quote: >> Hello Richard, I don't know how to say this or to say it properly or I may say it bluntly or frankly, I apologize in advance but my family need financial assistance so that we can start to fix the damages. There I've said it! So sorry..

Somewhere I have a few Philippines' coins made in the US during the 1940s. I think that he would appreciate them.
rggoodie, Save this thread "just in case." It can always be sent to members who ask.

By the way, would a mod or Forum Mom/Dad edit the description of the "Coin Community Family Topics" forum to remove "Secret Santa"? The annual Secret Santa topic has been in this forum ("Main Coin Forum") for the past couple years at least.
Obviously not a big deal but to avoid confusion it would be nice... (plus it tricks me every year when I'm searching for it!)
