I took the plunge and big in my first Frank S Robinson auction. With that sale he sent out an e-mail for 'budget' coins. He already has himself as a repeat customer in my eyes just after his budget sale and how he operates. While there may be no pictures for the coins in his budget sale I am happy with how they turned out. Also this is the fastest I have ever received coins from the states.

I must admit I felt like a newborn shark going after a whale. All of the adult sharks knew the drill and were in and out so quickly I am surprised I walked away with anything. I know as soon as the e-mail comes to me next time to read quick and order even quicker!

I need some help with the Hadrian since I can't find an exact match to the type. It is a Sestertius for sure and appears to have the IMP CAES DIVI TRA PARTH F DIVI NER NEP TRAIANO HADRIANO AVG legend however I can't find a match for the reverse. All of the FORT RED reverses with the obverse legend have the SC below the FORT RED. This one has it between Fortuna's rudder and the goddess for the S and the C on the other field.

The Gordian III shouldn't be too hard to ID for me but that will happen a bit later since I don't quite have time to do it tonight.

I am happy with both coins. I don't think the Gordian will stay will me long though since I already have a better example. I am slowly buying more quality than quantity but every now and then these budget examples slip through!

Way back when. coins were sold on words only. Sellers would describe them and the potential
buyer could garner a good idea.
Bottom line: if you find a seller with whom you are happy then you stick with that seller.
Works in person as well.
In this business, reputation is everything.

Matthew: What is this way back when you speak of! Descriptions and no pictures! Barbaric! ;) I will definitely be a repeat buyer of his.

Chrs: I agree Hadrian is very easy on the eyes. That coin is close but it is definitely the DIVI legend. Above his head the PARTH DIVI NER NEP TRAIANO is still visible. I just haven't found one yet that has the SC located where it is.

Yeah, that thread went a little over what I expected. I placed a bid in his auction and got added I don't know if you can just ask to be added.
