@razzy, sorry to hear this, and it makes me mad also. I collected GSA dollars for years, enjoyed the experience, and never had a problem with buying or selling from dozens of dealers and private individuals. I would not let up on your path to recover your loss and find the person who cheated you. If these items were sent through the mail, wouldn't that be some type of Federal crime that the Postal Service or FBI could help you with. Also, check with your local congressman, sometimes they can point you in the right direction, or even help you. Keep checking and don't give up!! Don't let one bad apple out there discourage you in this field. Believe me, there are so many here that are on your side.

@razzy, one other thing. If possible speak face to face with the police, FBI, or congressperson or aide. It's harder to say no or turn down someone in person than on the telephone.

@Ham - thanks SO MUCH for your kind encouraging words - I really feel terrible about this whole thing and wish I had known better. i will try my best to get the help I need to resolve it - I will be calling the FBI today
the transaction took place at a local mall so I bet he's on camera - I'm going to call the mall and talk to the security guards and see if they can help me as well
i really do love the hobby of coin collecting - I wish there were no thieves and that I had more knowledge

Secret Service deals with all counterfeit currency issues, including fake coins. Since they are technically still legal tender, whomever sold them to you was dealing in counterfeit currency in the laws eyes, in addition to fraud, theft by deception, etc.

so the secret service agent has been in contact with me at least 5 times already to get info and keep me updated on the situation - I can't believe how amazing that is in itself there is real good news to report to you all and I wanted to share it -they have the surveillance tape of the transaction so they can most likely make a positive id on the person -they believe that they already have a solid lead on the person - I'm guessing from other incidents such as mine
things are looking very good as of this point - more positive than i'd expect from a situation like this

Very exciting. I guess the Secret Service takes these things quite seriously...or they have a slow day at the office.
Looking forward to the next update.

Secret Service is great to work with, they do take this stuff seriously. I'd say you got a decent shot at busting the guy, and somewhat of a chance at getting your money back depending on how many other people he's ripped. Hope you get everything back and he ends up behind bars.

WOW! I just got through reading the entire thread. Now I'm mad too and I wasn't even scammed. I also thought you knew the person you were purchasing from when I first started reading the thread. I wonder how many of these will be held in collections and not discovered to be fake for years and possibly decades. Very sad. Can you imagining willing a collection to your kids only for them to find out they are fake after you kick the bucket. This scammer is such a scuzz bucket.
I hope this story has a happy ending. Soon.
