@jbuck, I can help with this date. I've got a 1498 zinsgroschen from Saxony. I will upload pics this weekend (unless someone beats me to it).

Right on cue. I will change the title on Monday, of course, to allow a full day for 1497. Of course, having another one or three would be nice!

@fuzzy319, thanks for sharing this dirham, the zero and two are quite clear on the rev. I have always had difficulty pinning an AH date down to a single AD year. As I understand it, these two calendars don't start on the same day, so there is incomplete overlap. Can you pin this particular coin's minting down to the first (or last) part of the year 902 or maybe I just don't understand the date conversion process very well?

For what it's worth, the old Russian calendar also did not start on the same day, but I personally would say their dates still count. This isn't really important for this thread (anymore), but might be for the third edition from 1612 to 1596 (the earlier range of old Russian dates). But then you shouldn't count old English coins either - their years started in March!
The problem with AH dates is not that the year start dates (which indeed only rarely fall in early January, it's that there's no one-to-one correspondence at all - the AH year is about 3% shorter, so if you try to do a one-to-one correspondence, you end up with about three AH years per century left over.

Here is an undated Hungarian Denar under King Wladislaus II that can be attributed to 1497 with a K-S/E mint mark. I also have one for 1496 and 1495. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...p?album2233. Huszar 803,Unger 638e,Pohl 238-4,Rethy II276,Kaplan Sub-type A2.

Quote: As I understand it, these two calendars don't start on the same day, so there is incomplete overlap. For this thread, I think we have been going by which CE year the AH year has the most overlap. Quote: I also have one for 1496 and 1495. Excellent! We are ready for 1496 now.

Very nice! Looks like I can change the title again tomorrow. Please, no one post a 1495 until EddieDiz posts a 1496.
