OK, I've been waiting for my fellow numismatic friends to get in their LA 1984 Olympic dollars. Rather than a "me too!" item, I'm posting a photo of a 1984 French 100 Francs coin here. It's pretty common to have national heroes, writers or artists depicted on any commemorative issue. It's quite uncommon to have a scientist commemorated. The obverse shows Marie Curie (1867-1934), the first woman ever to win a Chemistry nobel prize (in 1903 together with her husband, Pierre and Henri Becquerel) for their discovery and isolation of radioactive isotopes.

The dated reverse shows the sciences "Physics" and "Chemistry" in between the branches.

I am thinking some of those GB big penny coins look very nice. If you have some that are better years, I hope you do post some. I can never remember which ones .. are the coins to keep a eye out for. I am sure before this is over I will be posting some of my Great Britain and Canada coins.

But here we are with modern coins. I may as well post the 1983 dollar. I have the BU/UNC .. I think muddler might post the proof.

1982 Great Britain Uncirculated set:

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Second-Edition!---Ended-At-1492-Waiting-On-1491--

This was the first of the annual Uncirculated sets - sold in inexpensive packaging at a relatively small premium above face value. (Prices have dramatically increased since!) Prior to this The Royal Mint had issued an uncirculated set of the first decimal coins in 1968 in a blue plastic wallet that made the coins go all sticky! 1982 was the year the 20p coin was issued for the first time, and the word 'New' was omitted from the reverse designs. The 2p, 5p and 10p coins from this set were NIFC but I once got a 1982 10p in change.

1982 Penny

Nothing special except that of all the decimal pennies struck for circulation since 1971 this one has had the lowest mintage so far. Although it was still over 100 million.
