Same video is linked to on this site. Click "Coin Image Gallery" and "Video". I found it yesterday... And I also found it interesting that the PCGS graders are handling raw coins without gloves!!!!     |

They explain that on their website. Q: Why don't graders and sealers wear gloves while handling coins? A: PCGS graders and sealers are experts in the proper care and handling of coins. While gloves offer additional protection, they reduce the tactile sensations necessary to properly manipulate coins during the grading process and could increase the chance of dropping a coin. Think I would go blind sitting in a cubicle with only a little spotlight on my desk grading coins all day, everyday. Makes you wonder though how coin grades are missed due to "tired eyes!"

That video is a slider, I'd call it AU-58.  Doesn't make me want to pack up my coins and ship them out to the "world-class" graders at PCGS. How many times did he say "world-class graders" on the video? I guess he's from the "saying it makes it so" school of numismatic hoo-hah. I can just see them picking out the world-class grader to focus the grading segment on because of the way he handles the coins. I guess expert coin handlers should be trusted to be the last people to handle my coins. If I were in Vegas I'm not sure I would give my chips to the one who could manipulate them the most stylishly. That video in particular and coin grading/slabbing in general remind me of the Shakespeare quote about the tale told by the idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. |

I'll definitely think twice before sending my coins to PCGS now. I thought it was an industry standard to handle coins with gloves; coin collecting start kits even have them!
Do all of the grading companies handle coins with their bare hands?

Against popular opinion, I totally agree with PCGS. I can tell you for fact, that with gloves on I will drop things 100 times (at least) more often. |

Yes, and for the same reason, it is more common to drop coins when wearing gloves than when not wearing them. |

For those that require the use of gloves, I hope you don't eat out much. Speaking as someone who has worked in corporate restaurants before.yeah, not always.
