Yeah I don't want to be too critical because it is a nice looking coin. I think I just expected too much of it.

Congrats CC on being one of the first to receive this coin.

I saw one at our local Post Office on the weekend, but it was right at the back of the shelf and my neck isn't long enough to have stretched out and taken a good gander at it. Actually if I was a Gander I could have...

As for

Thanks CC for the pics!
I'm really disappointed with the COA though.... A picture of the lake on one side would have added much in the display of the collection, in the box. :(
Sending the subscription coins in clamshell is a good thing IMO (or would be if it's an error here), as it makes people cancel after receiving the box just to receive the clamshell and protective sleeves. In other words, once all goodies have been given (box and/or watch and/or others) there is no incentive to keep the subscription active, as you only receive less than the single coins.

As for the "debate" here... it's a neverending story. The same as Numismatics vs. Bullion, where bullion people just never understand why people pay more than the value of metal in the coins. And here is the same in Numismatics with "Pure Coin Lover" vs. "Collector" vs. "Hybrid Collector/Investor" vs. "Pure Investor".

Pure Coin Lover: Doesn't give a darn about mintage, aftermarket price, different finish, etc. If the price is good and they like the coin, BUY! Never care to sell or if the coin drop in value, they just want to look at them, make nice display, etc. For them, coins are "art" or something beautiful, like a paintings or a nice clock on their wall.

Collector: Care a little about numismatics specs as mintage, as part of collecting things has something to do with scarcity. Mainly buys because the coin is nice and they can afford it. Obviously, something that has potential to increase in price implies that the coin is popular and wanted. A nice addition to collection. And if they think the coin will drop in value, because not mostly popular, but they like it themselves, will wait a bit to buy it at a discount.

Hybrid: Care about all numismatics aspects of the coins AND they buy if they like it. Usually buys a few of each coins they like, hoping the value will increase to make the one they sell pay for the one they keep.

Pure investor: Doesn't give a darn about the coin itself, but only about mintage and possible appreciation. The coin could look like crap to them, if the value is going up, they buy search deals, buy and flip the following day! Or gamble on some coins, because of a nice box, series, etc.

And there is obviously a whole scale from 0-100 from one Pure to the other... where do you stand? It all depends, and can vary with time, but it doesn't matter that as a Pure Coin Lover, you don't care about mintage, it's part of the game. And as a Pure Investor, if you don't care about the theme of the coin, or what it looks like, it's also part of the game!

So we all are at a different number on this scale, and have to understand that it's not because we don't see the real value in something that it mean there isn't. When people debate about one of the aspect we don't care... there is a special something available to all individual called silence, which I think is often forgotten.

Anyway, as NuMOOSE already said, words doesn't contain the emotion and real intent in a message. Once again, this message is not to blame or whine against anybody here. It's just my Two Cents and a hope that these debates will vanish one day. Just respect every member point-of-view.

At the risk of over posting on this one today.

Here is Google's satellite image of the Lake. I can definitely see differences though I'm not sure how much Superior's water levels may change at any given point of the year.

Love this quote.... You state I'm buying coins no one wants,,,, but I'm buying the same ones you all are...

Lol. I have not purchased $50,000 from the RCM (and no plans by now) so it's clear we aren't buying the same stuff.

Thanks CC-Ottawa for all the information about the coin, BOX, COA, etc.

It's clear it'll be a very interesting series.

I don't like the new RCM logo but obviously they will put it everywhere from now.

It's a good question you ask.

It's difficult to know why the individual Lake Superior coin is "Awaiting Stock" while the subscription is still available.

As I stated before, from a Mathematics and Statistics point of view , it isn't difficult, it's just IMPOSSIBLE, that's why I don't trust in the RCM system that determines what's awaiting stock or sold out.
Yesterday my Rep. ordered for me a coin that is SOLD OUT and now I see it as processing in my orders.

Received mine as well today. And CC is correct, the coin is a little flat. I thought the coin would have had more of a "raised" effect. I do like the detail on the coin though, at an angle the details really show.

This is probably the last time I'll mention this again. But mintage and coin collecting go hand and hand. I don't see why someone's concern over an advertised mintage be brushed off and shunned or even belittled. This is a forum in where people who collect THE SAME coins share their views.

WOW! I haven't been back to this thread since my post, early on page 7. A lot has transpired. I totally agree with Coin chicks 1st post, with the exclusion of the garbage comment. She raised some very valid points, along with SPP, I pondered them deeply. It's helped to define the why I collect from now on. I have also come to a better understanding of how I will proceed in the future in collecting. I believe it's healthy to revisit one goals and objectives periodically. This isn't something I've done in the past year. Now I have a better plan for future collecting.

I really like Tipit's post, it really clarity's the continuum of coin collecting. It helps tremendously to have it explained in such detail. Speaking for myself I have been on different points on this continuum at different times in my journey as a collector. I guess for me it's always evolving, the more time I spend with my collection and reading. I call it my journey in coin collecting. I appreciate everyone's contribution. I believe no personal feeling should be hurt, as we are just stating what we feel and believe. You never know, it may be of value to someone down the rd.
For me SPP's cartoon and comment on its perspective , really hit home for me, it caused me to stop and evaluate on another level. Isn't this true of life in general?
Sometimes I get stuck in tunnel vision, so a good shake up helps me see when I'm stuck on only 1 aspect of a subject.
We are all individuals on our own collecting journey, some collect expensive coins, others inexpensive, so on and so forth. However, all the different parts make up the whole.

I forgot, the coin in hand looks very interesting. How many different shades of blue do people see? Also do you think it's a fairly accurate interpretation? I'm asking because I know very little about the Great Lakes. I do think it's a unique subject and an interesting collection. I can't wait until mine arrive. I just hope all my back ordered coins don't appear all at once. My CC will be hurting, especially prior to Christmas shopping. I feel this is the real problem RE shipping, if they all arrive at once, it's a huge bill, rather than spread out, and then it's hard to give each coin adequate attention at least for me.

Also received my coin today. Feel relieved that except the tiny bubble in the lake, other things seems okay. Overall a very nice coin, look forward to the other ones in this series.
