Are the scratches on top of the enamel or on the coin under the enamel? I am still waiting for mine so was just curious as where to look etc.

Received mine yesterday, with full clamshell and black protective box.

I don't really understand the comments about "not raised land"... The islands in the lake are raised? I guess I don't get really the point on this one.
Anyway, for my part, I'm really satisfied with the coin, I like it a lot. We see the different depths with "clear enamel", etc.

COA is, as seen in CC pics, disapointing! Let's hope it's better with the sub, but I wouldn't count on this. I don't like the new font used on the COA neither...

My Lake Superior coin came today (with no heads up warning from the mint), making for a pleasant surprise.

Both my wife and I think it is an outstanding coin. The lake's layered look is quite impressive. The compass points, as Anjohl has said really add to the overall appearance.

We did not see any flaws (i.e. bubbles or scratches) on the enamel with the naked eye, and a close inspection with a 10x loupe didn't reveal anything untoward.

Unless those scratches you see marty really bother you, I would keep it.

@ shaopaholic Is it possible that your "bubble" is really just the island down at the left hand side of the coin? It's supposed to be "Outer Island", I believe. Check it out on Google maps.

Off topic a bit but... Modern Coin Mart has a big Black Friday Sale going on right now. Many Canadian coins graded by NGC are cheaper than RCM issue price. At home page, click on Black Friday Specials.

Just a comment about the enamel process.

I'm not an expert but I saw the video where they enamel the Superman coin and it's done by an employer 1 by 1 like "painting" (not a machine) so I suppose it's not a 100% perfect job in a microscopic view.

Hi marty!

It was under a very bright halogen light that I looked with a loupe.

Also, since theses coins are all hand enamelled as arianzo said, it's possible that what are perceived as scratches are actually just lines made from a brush or some other implement that the artist uses.

This also could explain why the tiny islands are "flooded".

I'm pretty sure no two coins are exactly alike.

I meant to say this as well.

In fact the COA is kind of cheesy, it's not like the ones we're used to. I hope this is not what they are all going to be like for all future coins, reflecting a cost cutting measure.

Unfortunately my "bubble" is a real bubble right in the middle of the lake...

Ok so seeing what you pointed out, I checked mine. I have at least 10 of those 'bubbles' of varying size.

@CC-Ottawa: Please excuse me for pointing it out, but it seems that there are also a few scratches at the bottm of the lake too....

It's just the capsule. (I think)

My Outer Island is above water though - yours appears to be flooded.

I guess these are the imperfections we can expect from hand finished coins?
