I think you are right, CC-Ottawa... my Outer Island is indeed flooded.

So what now? Return it or keep it?
I can't really see 'defects' with the naked eye but they're all I see when magnified (even at as little as 3x). And short of going down to the mint and inspecting any replacements, it's kind of a gamble as to what you mint get.

Wait until many of us receive the coins. If all the people have the same stuff (as I think) what you've to decide is between keeping with you or asking the RCM for a refund.

Off to the side: I bought this coin on behalf of my friend and I really like it but I'm having a hard time dropping another $500+ on this set when I just bought all the Silver Supermans.
I may intend to buy in future but that risks any appreciation. I don't want this to be a debate about whether this coin is hot, but in general, is the outlook on NCLT usually downwards? Does this mean I should be able to get it at issue or a bit below in the future (the full set with box)?

For those who bought the superman shield do you have scratches and bubbles on the enamel.

Ugh CC that's alot of bubbles... personally I would be returning it if it were mine. But ya who knows what you will get in return... I don't care if the enamel is done by hand, there shouldn't be bubbles or scratches, very poor quality control imo.

I think you guys should exchange it. I took a look at my coin and there doesn't seem to be any bubbles. I also went over to my brothers house last night and while there asked to see his coin as well and there does not seem to be any bubbles ether. I didn't use any type of magnification device but my naked eye could not detect them.
Although my brothers outer island was almost flooded. A would assume out of the handful of workers producing them some have more experience then others. Or someone decided to rush the job to meet the deadline. The choice is yours of course because the coin after all belongs to it's owner.

Yeah, I decided to ship it back for exchange, just sent my rep an email to request an RMA. Being handmade would made each coin unique, but not flawed...

Quote: I didn't use any type of magnification device but my naked eye could not detect them. To be fair, I can't see the bubbles with the naked eye (or even a zoomed photo). It takes magnification to see them. I'm going to hold off until a few more folks here to examine their coin under magnification to see if this is an isolated issue or if they all have the same 'features'.

@prevalent - Yes, the general trend for NCLT is down with the odd exception (such as the glass lady bug) that proves the rule. IMHO that trend is accelerating with the recent 'flood' of new NCLT on the market. The nice boxes tend to appreciate though as they come 'free' with the listing and are fewer than the sets. I believe the Group of 7 box (a particularly large and nice one) was selling around $200 at one point but I don't particularly pay attention to box sales.

Well just received my GL coin in the mail today, so far it looks good with the naked eye, but I can see 2 very tiny bubbles with a light and a lope, but very hard to see , hmm thinking on keeping this one, I didn't put it under the scope though and don't think I will, probably will see stuff better left unnoticed lol. Oh ya and the COA is a bit "thin" but the old ones just seemed to be a bit too much paper, lots of unfolding just to look at the number , which was like a puzzle to put back together lol. I don't mind the less paper but the new paper could be a tad thicker. Also I like the new box, full black box and no sleeve.

Well guys, I took a closeup photo of my Lake Superior coin and discovered that there is one tiny "bubble" that is visible just about smack dab in the middle. It's almost in the exact same place as shopaholic's, just a little bit southeast. It's so small that I never even saw it under the loupe and it's virtually invisible to the naked eye. I've also re-examined it closely under a bright light with just my old eyes and I could not see the bubble at all. So I'm not going to exchange it, as I really does not detract from the appearance, and who knows what I would get in return. By the way the scratches you see, are on the outside of the capsule as are the dust particles. I do agree with Northerncoins that there should have been better quality control with these. @ marty My two Superman Shields are both perfect. @ CC-Ottawa With so many bubbles I might be inclined to exchange it. Since you have handy access to the Mint boutique, hopefully you would be able to change it there for a better one.
