I may intend to buy in future but that risks any appreciation. I don't want this to be a debate about whether this coin is hot, but in general, is the outlook on NCLT usually downwards? Does this mean I should be able to get it at issue or a bit below in the future (the full set with box)?

You should be able to get this coin for below issue price pretty soon. This is definitely not a "hot" coin if you look at ebay listings. There are only a few listings for it and the completed ones are $115, $125, $106, $98.

The high mintage of 10,000 coins and the limited appeal among the general public is going to depress the value of it.

I checked mine and see no bubble with naked eye.
I agree that CC's one looks like flawed like this with that many bubbles, but maybe mine has even more as I never checked under a microscope. I would personally not return a coin for something that can only be seen with a microscope... especially with a "hand-made" coin. Honestly, how can you ask for a even-under-20x-microscope-perfect thing when it's hand-made. It defies the purpose of hand-making it.

But..... if you collect coins because you like to watch them under a microscope once in a while and this is what makes you happy about your collection... maybe it worth the exchange. But still, it's hand-made, no guarantee the next one will be better.

It would be interesting to call RCM, and ask for someone from the Quality Control Department to explain what's the acceptable standard for this "hand-made" coins. Maybe we're expecting too much and will receive back the same coin (with the same kind of problems).

And about the subscription .... I received an email from my Rep about the remaining stock for some coins. 62 subscriptions left for the GL.

Like many of you, I also received the coin unexpectedly on Thursday. At first, I thought the coin was almost flawless. I didn't notice any bubbles or scratches on the lake even when looking through my loupe. After reading you guys' comments, I decided to inspect my coin again using an LED flashlight. Lo and behold, major scratches on the enamel!! There's a barely noticeable bubble by the small island on the left which I don't mind but the scratches bother me. They're not noticeable under a normal light. I don't know if I should exchange it... what do you guys think?

Bork! Bork! Chef

Those scratches are a drag! However if you can't see them at all under normal lighting, I'm not sure you should return the coin unless they really bother you.

As TIPIT said, handmade things will not look perfect under intense light and magnification. Also maybe the scratches look much worse under the very bright LED light.

Anyway, you don't have to make a quick decision about returning it.

Exactly what I have been saying as well. Now you might say, so what its not a big deal, and maybe it will never be a big deal with these coins, but say these coins climb in value at some point in the future, collectors buying them say 5 years from now or even less might be a bit more picky and those "scratches" are going to be a turn off or the very least a decrease in value, a tiny bubble or two may not be as big of an issue. But scratches will be.

As I understand it, enamelling is a manual task that is done by pushing an enamelling pen that is extruding the enamel back and forth over a surface to build up layers of enamel and achieve the effect. It's therefore almost a given that fine mirror surfaces be at least slightly damaged and that damage visible if the enamel is translucent.
Doesn't really bother me, still a beautiful coin

I just received my 2 Lake Superior coins: one is perfect under magnification the other looks to be near perfect. I need to view the magnified video I made to decide if I should send it back. I checked the islands on both coins and they are perfect, no flooding. They are very nice coins, I'm going to do further inspections under magnification before I post a more detailed opinion. First impressions I'm real pleased with their uniqueness.
I'm glad collectors pointed out the issues they noticed with the enamelling. It may have escaped my notice, as I don't always use magnification to view my coins. My $2 scope for my iPhone has come in very handy lately.
