Dcadon, Silvertowne has everyday a different deal, usually they last only 24 hours so yes, the lakes deal is gone. You can check it out at the beginning of the web page, in the middle. They have this deal right now: http://www.silvertowne.com/p-21712-...70-pcgs.aspx

Silverdon , thanks for posting pics, I also ordered this sub with case. I have the first two coins. After seeing your pics I'm eager to finish the set, only I'll wait to buy the coins at the discount price. The RCM did do a very nice job on packaging, it's a shame they didn't continue with other sets. Had they used a wooden case on teachings or the 10 coin set of explorers, I would of signed up immediately!! I feel if I'm spending $500 or more on a subscription, I want a quality display case that will last 75 yrs or more!! I know some will say are you collecting coins or cases! My reply, I like a quality display. I'm getting the cherry wood display cases as I'm able to afford them to display my favorite coins. This will be a very long process for me. I enjoy a quality display as much as the coins. It's like having a $5000 painting and using a cheap plastic frame. Too me the RCM is lying when they say they're giving you a free case as a bonus, when in fact you no longer get the clamshell the coins arrive in a cardboard diecut. To me they just traded the packaging : clamshells for the case. It would be different if you also receive the clamshells; then the case truly is a bonus!!

@pocket change 50, I agree, if you spend a good amount on the subscription, you should get a quality case.
I bought an extra empty 2013 1/2 oz. O Canada case, not high quality but something to hold a homemade F12 bullion set or other 1/2 ounce coins like the Chinese Lunar Coins annual Year of the ...
I also think the 2014 O Canada with the cardboard holder is not up to snuff, as well with the Explorer series. Nice to have the Group of Seven type with custom COAs so that they can be displayed on the cover like the Great Lakes coins. I am looking for an empty box for the Gof7 now.
I liked Silveroid's custom cases for the 20for20, its funny how people resort to getting innovative in the absence of RCM display products. Case in point the German manufacturer of cases for the 1.5 ounce bullion coins. A market exists out there for the savvy entrepreneur for making quality cases aftermarket for RCM coins.
Look at the nice case the RCM has for the gold plated O Canada series, they can produce them if they want, still not worth the $850 for the set. Lipstick on a pig in that case, if I may be so bold.

Hey Yup, have missed you posting over here! I haven't been over in bullion for a long while.
Give a price range so I know what to watch for? I get to converse with a wide variety of collectors, since this is my main source of entertainment since winter hit last weekend. I'm not stuck indoors and at times bedridden until I get my hip replacement surgery hopefully by January. I want to be healed and climbing around local mountains by spring/summer. So coins & conversation until then for me. It's amazing the new people I'm meeting via the net & my iPhone.

I was actually thinking about this set when I first saw the release. I think the coins are beautiful, and especially if you're from Ontario, these depictions of the Great Lakes are quite intriguing. I've seen a few of these coins around and looking into the enameled finish it really felt to me like there was real depth in those lakes. I agree with pocket change though, the quality of the display case is questionable, considering the price of the set. For $575, RCM can afford to construct a nice display case out of a decent quality wood.

@pocket change 50
hey pocket, just responded to the posting over on the bullion side and was coming over here again, hadnt seen these responses on this thread. nice to see you again friend!
Well, over the weekend was doing some stalking on my wish list and right now, I would like to pay around mid to low 70's for this coin. I think if that happens tho, and seeing its the last coin in the bunch, it goes for even less than that.
I mean I saw a bunch of auctions for this series, one coin went for 75 USD with free shipping.
So if you see an auction for this coin let me know OR if with the holidays coming up someone has a flash sale or something like that, please let me know and thank you for looking out! You canadian guys are always helping out, I remember I think it was earlier this year Silveroid helped me in getting a sweet deal on a Sochi hockey coin.

... so these are being discounted also,,, recent auctions, even for slabbed 69 grades going for about 55ish... almost 50% discount to the mint offering in USD...
this increases my hopes of finding a Lake Michigan at a nice price.

It would be different if you also receive the clamshells; then the case truly is a bonus It is standard procedure not to give clamshells in a subscription. As soon as the box comes, no more clamshells, coins then come in a cardboard box. Usually the first coin comes in a clamshell but it depends on when the box is scheduled to come in.

how about instead of giving clam shells and boxes, that they just reduce the prices.....
I mean this last coin they should have dropped the price...
