Nero Claudius Drusus AE Sestertius Obv. NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP Bare Head left Rv. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVGP M TR P IMP S C Claudius seated on curule chair amidst pile of arms holding olive branch Sear 1896 RIC 93 Minted by Claudius AD42 35-36mm 28.24 grams Not quite as 'buff' as I would prefer but ...... for $66 clams I certainly didn't overpay did I (free shipping !) The seller photo was awful and I could see some potential. Unfortunately some smoothing has been done (mainly in the fields). There is supposed to be a legionary eagle in the field behind the head of Claudius Drusus and a faint image is still apparent. The 'dummkopf' who did the smoothing may not have realized that ..... Someday I will find a nicer one (maybe even a green one). Until then ..... good enough ! Edited by FVRIVS RVFVS 11/08/2013 08:24 am

Smooth- but a large bronze at a good price, eh. I would say 'sold!'

Even with the smoothing it's still a nice coin for a good price.

Smoothing doesn't look too bad. I believe it to be pretty darn awesome. After all this silver I have been buying I think it may be time to jump back on the bronze wagon once I can fall off the no coin wagon

Thank you for the compliments !
Once again I have dug a small hole for myself financially (nothing too deep just that I hate paying interest !). My brother gave me a lecture about my buying myself 'presents' on occasion. I asked him what was I supposed to do ? Let this one go to the next guy for $65 ? Looooong silence on the line ....... "No I suppose not"
The smoothing is just within acceptable bounds and to be honest in the original photo could not be seen at all. Just as well as I may have hesitated (bad idea !) What is a bit annoying though is that the very area that is obviously smoothed is where the eagle is ! Like I said previously the "dummkopf" may not have realized that what seemed to be something encrusted onto the field was an important design feature ! Fortunately the scraping was 'light' and did not reach past the patina .... the eagle is faintly visible. Even more splendid is the fact that no dimensions were given by the seller. While 28.24 grams does not top my collection the 35-36mm certainly does ! To be honest it is a hair under the 36 ..... close enough !

I agree it is a bit 'rough' around the edges Dutch. Hence the smoothing which someone seemed to think a good idea (maybe it was). But Nero Claudius Drusus (brother of Tiberius, father of Claudius, stepson of Augustus and great grandfather of Nero) is a tough one to locate unless you have deep pockets. Being a longtime cheapskate he has eluded my hands for far too long !
