would any one have any thing on this pattern trial cupro nickel in 1947 so they were playing with cupro nickel well before 1966 here is a link to the cupro trial http://museumvictoria.com.au/collec...stralia-1946 and one more thing that has me puzzled is if they were faked why has only one ever been found has any one heard or seen any other magnetic penny the strike is to good to be a fake and still the question why fake a 1952 Melbourne die penny

I'd say only one has been discovered because most people would be quick to dismiss a circulated common date penny without so much as a second thought.

Hey, I think I have the answer.

Just watching the Penn and Teller show and a magician did a trick using coins and cards. The secret of the trick turned out to be that he was wearing a ring on each hand and both the rings and the coins were magnetised to enable the trick to work.

Your coin could be an ex-trick coin. There were plenty of side show magicians in the early days - and probably just as many hustlers as well - and the coins had to look real for the trick to work.
