With 15% off 2014 Gilded Maple leaf set, I had to finally pull the trigger. I am glad I held off until now.

These sales pretty much just devalued the coins if that is important to people.

Quote: These sales pretty much just devalued the coins if that is important to people. I think that you're right, at least in the short term, LithanialHowever, I don't think it will make much difference in the after market prices farther down the road. What worries me is whether Canada Post will make good and all the orders. At least the mint, despite some incredible delays always delivers the coins!

The problem with deals like this is that we now know that collectors will hold out for the Black Friday deals next year before buying some of the not-so-hot coins. I am not a big fan of introducing clearances on coins and I don't like where this could lead us. It is one thing if you are a local dealer looking to get rid of inventory, but it is another thing if you are Canada Post. I would rather the Mint buy back the coins and melt them. The value of a coin is vital to coin collecting.

I think these kind of sales reflect the market & RCM can see the volumes of sales at different price levels which may actually lower the price of future offerings. The quicker the sell-out, the better for RCM. Who doesn't want something cheaper? I think many people were on the borderline for some coins but with cheaper prices they leaned toward buying.

Picked up some superman coins from CP at awesome discounts earlier this morning!
To those collectors that paid for ANY coins from the Mint, you should refund their coins with the Mint (if bought within their 30 days), and buy the CP discounted coins!
You can't get this sweet of a deal from your dedicated MC Rep.

The value of a coin is vital to coin collecting. You are right again, Lithanial! Quote: CP is not another dealer? CP is a dealer, arianzo, but it's not an ordinary one. It's a Crown Corporation not a private company. The taxpayers ultimately pay their bills. Quote: That's right I collect coins I don't resale them .Bonus for me. It is a bonus for you, yingyang, and anyone who wants to spend less for a coin. The only problem is that this breeds resentment and frustration from those who paid the full issue price from the other Crown Corporation, i.e. the Royal Canadian Mint! Quote: ...Who doesn't want something cheaper? I think many people were on the borderline for some coins but with cheaper prices they leaned toward buying. True, coinhooked. It's just that this kind of undercutting undermines collector confidence that they are paying a fair price from the original source, i.e. the RCM. Quote: You can't get this sweet of a deal from your dedicated MC Rep. Quite so, Coinplus! That's why the reps are not going to be very happy about this. They will sell fewer coins and earn less commission. And as I've already said, there's NO guarantee that Canada Post will actually fill all of the orders they receive.

@NuMoosematist: Competition is good & will let the market determine a price. I also got burned on the Autumn Bliss coin fom CP but will not boycott them. John Maben, owner of Modern Coin Mart says: coins may be cheaper at a later date than issue price. Some popular coins explode in price and others suffer. Coin collecting is a risk, just like stocks & bonds.

Don't bother checking the forum for one day and the world falls into chaos. I feel like someone punched me in my gut. Don't I feel special about buying the maple set for issue.
Just kidding I'm not that upset, but I'm not to happy about it ether. I think I will wait it out for black Friday next year.
