This coin I found exceptionally hard to photograph. It has a dark smooth shiny black tone, there is some lamination damage on the reverse., but overall the coin is appealing. FORVM graded this coin. I am waiting to see what the rest of you guys say, before I reveal their grade.

The Color of MoneyHaving made plain my personal preferences .... I have here my favorite 'Greenie' which I won two summers back on a fine sunny afternoon. AE Sestertius DIVO AVGVSTO SPQR around Shield inscribed OB CIVES SER The fields have been scraped. But the emerald green patina is thick enough to take it. The high points on shield are somewhat obscure. But I love it ! The color and patina knock it into VF territory.

On the Attalos I am going with aVF and I am thinking about the same on the Sestertius, nice coin, as of yet I own nothing with such a bizarre and interesting obv.

Beautiful patina and nice details. The reverse is off center losing some of the legend though. Overall I would grade it at VF.

On MetDet71's Hadrian: Quote: It's amazing how close ancient grading is to US Colonial grading. You have to take into account several factors when grading Colonials. I would call this a F if Colonial. Quote: See in Roman portrait coinage I generally grade primarily on the ear/hairline/Laureate combination once they all become one surface indistinguishable the coin is a fine. If these three devices are clearly defined then the coin is very likely a VF. So F+ for me; attractive coin

Seeing as though some of you are partial to AEs, try and grade my Commemorative Reduced Follis

A bit dark on the lighting !
Nice piece. Still with surface 'stuff' unremoved. Not to be confused with corrosion although the reverse fields appear a bit 'coarse'. VF Details, good centering and heavy (black?) patination.
Solid VF ! FR scale VF-5

These small commemoratives tend to lack detail and centering IMO. This one however is well centered and though the obverse could use a bit more cleaning to bring out more detail has excellent details. Overall I would grade it at VF+.

Please grade my mottled Caligula. I am not sure what I think with all of the encrustation on what appears to be a fairly intact coin. Sorry the pics are so shinny glarry; the coin is lacquered and a little better looking in hand than my photos.

If not for all the encrustations and course surface the details of the coin would be VF. But because of the problems I would grade it at Fine.
