Looks like someone started to clean this one up then got scared off. I see at least 3 areas on the fields that appear to have been somewhat scraped. With apparently fairly decent results too. I don't advise scraping anymore. It certainly has excellent upward potential though doesn't it ? I see many qualities I would attribute to a low end VF. It is the uncertainty that makes it difficult.

I think it may be beneficial to soak it in acetone or some aromatic solvent to remove what has been applied to the surface. Once this is done and the remaining crust can be examined better the next step can be determined.

All the important details appear well preserved ..... currently borderline F/VF with excellent potential for upward movement. Nice colors too ! Always a plus in my book

I quite like the ones with the hut, I keep upgrading it, this is my best example of it's type I have. I would like a nicely centred one but the details on the reverse of this one are really good in hand. Would you clean that a little more?

For the Constans that is a difficult call. The details are actually clear enough and if you clean all the green away the coin might start to look too good ! Like it was made last week ! Personally I like a bit of green patination.

I think you should put off any decision. You could always do it 'later'.

Gordian III is a bit worn isn't it ! That said the legend is still fairly intact and the wear is quite even. It may have even been a weak strike to begin with. I give it an F. Despite the worn condition it still maintains decent 'eye appeal'.

aF for me on the Gordian. I dropped it from F simply based on the amount of them I have seen with a bust that is almost as struck. I do like that reverse type though.

Thank you for grading it for me!
I do not collect ancients, and even I have no idea about ancient coins, until a couple of hours ago when I first started digging information about that particular silver coin online.
For the story of it, please check this link:

thanks :)

Very nice coin MetDet. Excellent details and nice patina, just slightly off centered on the reverse. I would also grade it a vFine. Out of all my coins I have never come across a decent captive an hut.

Internet says it is "Concordia Avg" reverse. Struck around 240AD. It is amazing how much history are behind these old fellas.

The Gordian III is worn but the coin is well centered. I would grade this coin at Very Good to About Fine.

Thanks echizento. It's the best I have but if I do find a better one I am sure this one will make it's way to an appropriate new owner ;)

Thanks echizento, and guys for grading my coin. Now at least I have a rough idea about it.
It looks better at ahnd. It seems to have seen some circulation. Wonder who have used it years and years ago.

I second TJ's opinion on the Gordian. The first coin is VF IMO.
