Great Britain Crown 1935. To celebrate the Silver Anniversary of King George V. The wording around the edge reads "DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI XXV"

Looking back, I have certainly bought a large number of coins this year! I've been buying almost exclusively ancient coins now, moving away from my prior focus of early US coins. As for my favorites, they are fairly easy to pick out: A gold distater (17 grams) minted by Alexander the Great in 336BC: A decadrachm of Syracuse engraved by Euainetos from 405BC (the size of a Morgan dollar but much heavier): A tetradrachm of Agathokles from 310BC: and my favorite is this coin, a Colosseum sestertius, one of six available to private collectors, which was handed out by the emperor Titus at the first games ever held at the Colosseum in 80AD: I hope you all have a great 2014!

Re posting from SmallEagle...are those for real? Outstanding details and quality for 2000+ year old coins. Certainly not prying but they must have cost an arm, leg, torso and other bodily parts.

Quote: BarryG - I really like that coin and would love one as a desk top piece. Were you able to get a deal on it? Seemed mighty expensive when I saw them new. I paid original list price with no markup. Sadly, the price of silver plummeted soon thereafter and people started selling them on ebay for hundreds of dollars less. Oooops...

I too am amazed by those awesome ancient coins that have survived in such remarkable condition. Great photos and thanks for posting! They make 99% of the stuff I have acquired in the past year look like Chuck-E-Cheese tokens.

Well, I love all of my purchases, but I will post the two I am proudest of. The first completed my Dansco 7100, and the second represents the only gold I have ever bought. Enjoy!
