First of all I wish a Merry Christmas to all vammers.. Now just need some help with this nice VAM 1885 p Morgan dollar. I just took a look on the related vamworld link and I think this could be a VAM 4A Super CD Elite Clashed Morgan dollars. Do you think it's correct? And what do you think about possible grade of this coin? Thanks Vincenzo            |

That is a nice looking coin with some serious clashing. I bet Twohawks could find the E on that one! I agree it is the VAM 4A. Clashing is so cool when it is that strong all over the place. I am not a professional grader but I would say MS63. It is too hard to tell how many defects are in the fields and on the devices with your lighting. Go to a local coin show and look over other 1885 Morgans and see what MS grades PCGS & ANACS coins look like. After looking at a bunch you will get a better feel for grading your own coins. No I don't see the clashed E unfortunately. For grading you can become a member of PCGS coinfacts and study the images of graded Morgans and other coins. Their pictures are top notch but you have to pay like $10 a month or something to be a member. To find a clashed E on this VAM 4A would be a miracle because so many others have looked at this VAM and have never found an E. I just said something because Twohawks has a tendancy to see E's on these types of strong clashed coins. I didn't realize that you were joking about the clashing E and I'm just a newbie in vams to know that it's impossible to find a clashed E on a 1885 p VAM 4a. I have some morgans graded by ngc and pcgs in ms65/64/63 and 62 to compare but I find this forum so helpful and I will continue to ask your opinion. What about the value and rarity of this coin? Is it easy to find a 1885 p VAM 4a? |

Lux73, I am sorry if I sounded rude, it is possible your coin could have an E but it would be very faint and probably does not, I am sorry if I confused you. The link to the 1889-O VAM 20A is one that can be hard to spot and shows what to look for in a faint clashed E. I stand behind MS63 but it could be better. It is a nice looking coin. The VAM 4A is not hard to find. I usually look on ebay and compare with the others for sale to find a value. I don't see any PCGS graded MS63 in completed that have sold but from the others that have sold I would guess it is in the $100 - $125 range but it could only sell for $80-$90 on auction. VAMs are kind of hard to put a value on but you have a good variety that has a following. Merry Christmas to you from Iowa, I forgot about that in my first post. Kris Edited by 7TF

You didn't sound rude but I only misunderstood and then I tried to find an E... sometimes you can see with your mind things that your eyes can't see! That's maybe why I found an E. Thanks Vincenzo |
