I was about 8....a guy on my paper route was a collector, and used to pay his monthly bill in 1967 centennial money.....At that time, I thought if I deposited the coins in the bank, I would get the exact same ones when I withdrew the money.....He also game me a pair of 1853 French Centimes with Napoleon III, which I still own.....so 40+ years for me

45 years. Started with pennies and nickels back then as a young teenager. Not sure what the first coin was.

I started with a canadian nickel folder when I was 7 that I got as a gift. I am now 46 so on and off for 40 years. the nickel folder was almost complete when I got it. it was only missing 1925 and 1926 far 6 of course! my parents travelled a lot so I got a lot of world coins too. I also collected stamps which were more affordable as a kid but metal beat out paper in the end. I still prefer Canadian nickels especially errors and varieties but I do also have Canadian and provincial pre decimal tokens, ancient coins, banknotes, and pretty much anything else that catches my eye and doesn't break the bank (or alarm the wife)

Since I was a wee little boy years ago. I credit my dad with getting me into this mystifying hobby. I honestly can't remember my first coin......and I collect........anything shiny. Nope. Anything dull. Nope. Anything toned. Ahh heck, I collect them all :)

I started collecting coins in 1988. I was in 7th grade. Discovered that I had a nickel in my change that had a mint mark above the Monticello and my other ones didn't! Until then I didn't know that there was "different" money. When I found out it was worth more than 5 cents I was hooked. After that I begged for a coin book and to go through my whole family's change jars! I now collect US and world coins, tokens, elongated cents, etc.

Started when I was 10 years old. My uncle gave me an Italian L.50. I had never seen a foreign coin before. It just peaked my interest.

I started in the mid 1950s when an uncle gave me Whitman penny and nickel folders. Lots more fun back then as George V and up coins were readily found in change. I did pick up a few Victoria and Edward dimes in change as well. Just shy of 60 years collecting now although, as life brought many changes, sometimes the collection has been put away for years at a time.

63 years (since 1951). Knowing nothing about coins, I began looking through change and saving one (Lincoln) cent of each different date. When I found out that one could also collect by mint mark and that some combinations were quite valuable, that made it even more fun. By the time I went on to collecting other things, I'd found three 1909-S VDBs, two 1914-Ds and a host of other things. You'd be amazed what was still floating around in circulation in the 1950s!

Since 1993 for me. Started in a town with no coin shops and pre-internet, so a lot of my early stuff was Mint sets of varying types. Went into special serial numbers/radars next, and focused onto errors in 2004 or so.

Started in 1996 when my grandfather gave me some wheat cents out of his collection. Started to collect more seriously when I started college and found a great coin shop not too far away.
