Hi,
looks like a "doubling" in 42 of theis 50 cents. Is it a good keeper or just a common coin ?
thanks all.

The guru on 50 cent pieces is pg in rh and we'll hope that Paul drops in and answers. He was the author of the variety section for the past Charlton section for those coins.

There are four double punched 2's for 1942.... all under the bar of the 2. I am not aware of any others.

I am confused, are you saying that only four have been reported or four different punch exist?

The only non-progressive doubling that I have seen on the 1942s are the double punched 2's. You may find things like Die Deterioration Doubling (which your coins look like) but that is a progressive or die wear thing.

Sorry having computer problems.... the four double punched 2s (different dies) as illustrated in Charltons 68th are the only non-progressive varieties of the 1942s that I know off. All else are usually wear related.

Each year Charltons includes a Variety section on different denominations/years. The 2014 68th edition was the year for the George VI fifty cent coins.

Since there's no big deal with this coin, I decided to clean the entire coin and yes, It was only dirt, no doubling there. So you was right.
Thanks.
