I sold a dozen eagles 2 weeks ago to my LCS ... as the buyer was going through the stack, he casually tossed one aside..."this is fake"...he says ... ..."?" said I "...don't you want to take it out of the holder & weigh & test it?..." ..."no need" ... he says ..."look at it"... I quickly compared it to one of the other (genuine) Eagles ... "Good Grief!"... "the surfaces are a dead give-a-way!"... he smiled & nodded ... ...in January, this year, I had purchased the counterfeit along with 2 other (genuine) from a guy selling his father's coin collection... I had just began buying eagles, & didn't notice any difference then ... I don't believe the son, or dad, knew the difference, either ... ...comparing (in hand), the surface on the counterfeit had (under slight magnification) a grainy appearance, compared to genuine Eagles' surfaces (regardless of matte, satin, etc.) ... ...Lesson learned!...the dealer knew immediately, & the difference, in hand, is striking ... but, not so much in a stock photo ... ...here's said offender, after some added "privy marks" ...

Quote: here's said offender I have a fake ASE given to me by a LCS in NOLA where I buy lots of stuff. He had a stack that someone brought in to sell. The guy's secretary's friend had a friend (I think that's how it went) who needed cash in a hurry and would sell them for half price. The guy smelled easy money, bought them, then went to the LCS to cash in. I still haven't taken pics of it - hopefully soon.

IIRC, one of you also got one of these "how can you pass up this deal" offer from a seller on ebay. Yeah, the way to get me to buy your coin is by INCREASING the price.

yeah, I've had 'offers' like that - I politely declined the offer explaining that I didn't want it at the lower price, so Why would I buy it at the higher offer price..

Looks like either acid or blow torch damage - or both! 1955 Double Die Obverse Wheat Lincoln Penny- Rare Big Full DDO- Lowest On ebayUS $1,499.00 ebay item number: 236027357106For sale is a Rare 1955 Double Die Obverse Wheat penny. This is the Big One, with complete double die obverse with the date, motto, & legend words all fully doubled. An exceptionally hard to find Wheat penny. A great addition to any collection. Mid Grade Details: Strong details on the reverse wheat ears and on Lincoln's bust on the front, however it's obvious this coin has been cleaned. I also added a few pictures at the end of the important die marker lines on the reverse side, left of the "T" in "Cent".
