I recently picked up this 1824 Shilling. It looks to be in excellent condition. Can anyone tell me a little bit about it? Value? Rarity? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I got it for what I think is an extremely good price, but they say if it sounds too good to be true...

Ray, there's a specific sub-forum for British:

Can someone with a wand move this thread there so the captive audience sees it?

Decent detail, but looks to have maybe caught a harsh cleaning a while back (toned over somewhat, though still bright in spots), if I'm reading the photos correctly...

This type was only issued for three years, 1823-1825. The year in the middle, 1824, has the highest mintage of the three. Here's the NGC database page for it, using American grading standards with prices in American dollars. I don't know about old cleaning; the patina looks authentic enough to me.

Thanks, not quite the bargain I had hoped. I paid $40, so at least I didn't lose money.
