I had attended a local coin show in Albany, New York and was returning home when I decided to take the scenic route on a two-lane road as opposed to taking the interstate.

Enroute I came across an antique shop working out of a barn and decided to stop for the heck of it. At that time I had learned from experience that antique shops are hit and miss (usually miss) when it comes to coins and I usually passed them by. I don't know why I decided to stop at this one.

Aside from a box of old, water damaged auction catalogs there did not appear to be anything else coin-related but then I spotted an old dish by the cash register. The dish contained maybe 30 copper nickel world coins, the kind you would buy by the pound for a kid just starting out. Buried under a pile of seemingly worthless junk I spotted a maple leaf peeking out at me.

Closer inspection revealed this piece which the proprietor sold to me for $2.00 - I no longer pass by any antique shops in my travels!
