It appears to be Japanese - Kan'ei Tsuuhou. The 'legs' of the left Hou character suggest that it might be much older - mid 17th century. It should measure 24mm with a thickness of 1mm. This link should be helpful to you:-

wade: what makes you think it is a replica? Most of the Japanese Mon look way better than contemporary Cineses cash coins. Behind the mylar I think it looks okay. Does it have any markings on the back?

no markings on the back,

a person more familiar with these told me its dated 1653.

I thought replica because it is so pristine, like it was minted yesterday, however they are apparently very common and this grade is not a rarity (or even all that valuable)

I'm a little ticked off with the ebay seller, they had it attributed as Vietnam 1 phan. they reluctantly offered a refund for the cost of the coin but I am out the $8 tracked shipping AND return shipping if I decide to send it back.

I think I'll just nail it to the wall as a reminder to attribute for myself (or ask for better pictures) before buying...
