It looks like I'll only be getting the Lake Ontario coin as part of my subscription. I hope I won't find any defects, such as the bubbles and scratches in the blue enamel that so many of you found with the Lake Superior coin.
I like the Chipmunk design, but at 11 mm diameter it is just too small, and to pay $80 for a half gram of gold is just too dear for me.
Quote: I'll only be getting the bison coin...find the series stunning thus far!
Glad that you like it. Just want to post the opposite...I do not collect this series (planning to get only the one of four coins), and IMO, the second is not so good.
Anyone see a reason why theyre pushing the extra large nature of the pintail duck 25 cent coin? At 35mm is it not the same as the other birds series coins or am I missing something?

I confess I had never thought to check until I read the above, but I have now looked at the specs for the Wood Duck colored coin and it, too, says 35mm. So I think it's the same as the two preceding coins in the ducks series. I *thought* the ducks were the same size as the Birds of Canada series, but maybe I'm wrong about that! Will have to check.
Its the same at 35mm....both other duck coins were 35mm....they are probably just trying to word it differently to sell more because the other ones are still available
Quote: Oh yeah! The second Bison coin! I didn't realize until just now that it is up for sale to MC members right now.
There's NO mention of it in the latest catalogue.
Uh oh! I just had a look and it's already "Awaiting Stock"!
This is exactly what happened with the first one.
I guess I'll have to wait for it to become available from a dealer... again...
Reps offered the Bison coins as a subscription when the first coin came out. Perhaps that was selling well, and after whoever commissioned the coin get it's own share, there are not many left for MC member and general public. But it is just my guess.
I've started to think, that the 3-rd "Traditions of Hunting" is also last in the series, same as Untamed Animals.
I collect the "Hunting" and hoped to fill the O Canada 5 coins box with them. My thought, to use the "Contemporary Art" 1 oz coin, as the 4-th coin for the box (as I see there - the same theme - Hunting). But what about 5-th one?
So, I searched for some Canadian close to this theme NSLT coin and found this one:
"Canada 1990 Silver Dollar Proof Henry Kelsey 300th Anniversary"
Welcome to the real world of NCLT 'investment'. If you check the track record of RCM NCLT issues for the past 40 years, you will realize that a minimum of 90% of the coins issued are worth less today than they were when issued. Maybe 'worth' is a poor choice of words. 'Priced at' may be more appropriate. I have told collectors for 25 years that if they can wait a year or two before adding a NCLT coin to their collection, they will often be able to get it at half the issue price. But those people who have to have it the day it comes out will pay the inflated RCM prices.
But this is the reality with the collectibles. Again, everything depends on the budget of the collector, but would he prefer the "fresh" item right now, when it "hot" and attracts attention, or after couple of years, discounted and forgotten?
Well, it not applicable to all the coins, but this is the situation for the most of the NCLT, that will lose their value.
